400e FAQs

What Type of BBs Should I Use?

What Should I Do If My Gun Jams?

The most common issue with BB jams is the incorrect ammo being used. Sometimes during shooting, the rifle may stop unexpectedly. This indicates that you most likely have a BB jam.

  1. Magazine Jam:

  2. Filter Ring Jam:

      1. How to Clear a BB Jam on the Barra 400E (Filter Ring Jam)
      2. Remove the magazine and clear any excess BBs.
      3. Remove the battery (safety first!).
      4. Remove the front pin by driving it out with a pin punch and separate the receivers.
      5. Remove and set aside the dust cover plate.
      6. Loosen the screw at the back of the bucking system.
      7. Remove the filter ring and clear the jam completely.
      8. Reinstall the filter ring, dust cover plate, and screw.
      9. Line up the receivers and drive the front pin back in.
    • If the magazine is jammed, watch the video linked above to resolve the issue.

  3. Barrel Jam:

What Type of Battery Does My Gun Use?

  • Minimum Requirement: 11.1v, 3s, 1800mAh, 25c Lipo brick style with a Deans connection.
  • Maximum Battery: Use only the recommended battery sold with the gun to ensure long-term safety and functionality.

How Do I Load the Battery?

  1. Set the gun to "SAFE," unload it, and point it in a safe direction.
  2. Press the release buttons to remove the back cover.
  3. Connect the battery leads securely.
  4. Insert the battery into the stock and replace the cover.

How Do I Load the Magazine?

  1. Load steel BBs into a speed loader.
  2. Attach the speed loader to the magazine feed.
  3. Push the loading rod gently until the magazine is full. Do not apply excessive force.

Note: If inserting an empty magazine, push the BB follower back into the magazine first. This only applies to the 50 round magazines. 100 round magazines do not have a follower that protrudes. The last 5 BBs function as the follower and it is normal for these to drop out when the magazine is removed. You can tip the gun upside down between the last 5 shots to fire these, or simply hold your hand out to collect them for use.

How Do I Select Firing Modes?

  • Turn the safety lever to "SEMI" for semi-auto mode or "AUTO" for full-auto mode.
  • Ensure the gun is off "SAFE" before firing.
  • Point at your target and pull the trigger.

How Do I Adjust the Sights?

  • Flip up the front and rear sights from their mounted positions.
  • Use a hex key to reposition the sights, if needed.
  • Turn the rear sight wheel to adjust the sight left or right. For example, if you are shooting left and need to shoot more to the right, rotate the adjustment to move the sight to the right.
  • For the updated sights, elevation changes can be made with the front sight. Move the front sight up to shoot lower, move it down to shoot higher.

Accuracy Issues (running out of sight adjustments and still shooting low, high, left, right)

  •  Rotate the barrel itself within the hop up unit.
    • Remove Battery, and Magazine.
    • Remove the suppressor (this is counterclockwise), then rotate the barrel 90 degrees.
    • Replace the suppressor and see where the new point of impact is. Might be able to adjust from there, if not, rotate another 90 degrees and repeat the sight in.
  • Also, make sure there is one o-ring on the barrel pushed into where the inner barrel protrudes from the male threads for the suppressor. And one o-ring at the last quarter end of the barrel.

How Do I Adjust the Stock?

  • Press the adjustable stock spring and pull backward to extend the stock.
  • The stock adjusts to six positions.

What Should I Do If My Gun Has No Operation?

Common causes for no operation include:

  • Fire selector set to "SAFE": Move to "SEMI" or "AUTO."
  • Battery issues: Ensure the battery is fully charged and connected correctly.
  • Motor connection issues: Check and repair motor connections.
  • Expired motor life: Replace the motor if needed.

What If My Gun’s Motor Runs but BBs Don’t Fire?

  • Ensure the magazine is fully inserted into the receiver.
  • Check for a jammed filter ring
  • If the issue persists, contact customer service to check for potential faulty gears or broken levers.

Why Isn’t Full-Auto Mode Working?

  • Check that the battery is fully charged.
  • Clear any BB jams in the magazine or barrel using a cleaning rod.

Are Gen 2 Parts Compatible with Gen 1 400e?

Yes, Gen 2 parts are compatible with Gen 1 rifles for upgrades or repairs. The 100-round and 50-round magazines also work with Gen 1, Gen 2, and Polymer 400e models.

Is It Normal for BBs to Fall Out When Removing the Magazine?

Yes, it’s normal for a few BBs to fall out when removing the magazine. Always treat the rifle as if it’s loaded and follow gun safety protocols.

  • LPVO Scopes: Popular for AR-15s and a good fit for the 400e. Offset mounts may be needed.
  • Red Dot Scopes: Choose a red dot that mounts on a Picatinny rail. Consider using a riser for comfort, depending on your shooting style.

How Do I Attach a Picatinny Bipod or Similar Accessory?

The safety works on one side, but not the other on my 400e?

Unload the gun and remove the battery. Make sure both selectors are pointing in the same direction. Hold the left side selector switch in place, use a 2.5mm hex key to make sure the screw that goes through it is snug. Move to the right side, make sure it is still pointing in the same direction as the left side. Hold the right-side selector switch in place, use a 2.5mm hex key to make sure the screw that goes through it is snug. Do not over tighten, if they are snug, they are correct. If this does not correct the issue, the gun needs to be returned for replacement or refund.

Can I install aftermarket parts in my gearbox to change how the 400e operates?

The installation of aftermarket parts in your gearbox will void your warranty and should only be undertaken by people qualified to work on airsoft gearboxes. Some parts will require modifications in order to fit, and we cannot provide a list of parts that we suggest or recommend beyond the springs and other parts we offer for sale.

How Do I Connect the 9-Pin Low Voltage Buzzer Alarm?

The buzzer alarm connects to the balance lead of the LiPo battery, not directly to the 400e.

Tips:

  • Disconnect the battery from the 400e when not in use.
  • Always unplug the voltage alarm from the LiPo battery when not in use to prevent power drain.

What is the inner barrel O-Ring size (part E45-M4-27) for the 400e?

  • Proper metric size is 2mmx4.5mm. Since this isn't a critical part under pressure, if someone wants to source a close English equivalent, a -008 (3/16 ID X 5/16 OD X 1/16 CS) is a good fit that they might be able to find locally.

What is the size of the Main Spring in my 400e?

  • The mainspring is actually custom made, a standard 135 should fit. Heavier airsoft springs tend not to fit without modifications to the gearbox.

How do I tighten the buffer tube?

Place the gun on safe and remove the magazine, battery cover, and battery. Using a long phillips screwdriver, tighten the screw inside the buffer tube.

I've ran out of sight / optic adjustment, and I'm still shooting too far (up, down, left, right)

If they are shooting too far down, confirm the distance they are shooting at and if an optic is being used. If their optic is mounted high above the rail, suggest either shooting a longer distance or obtaining shorter mounting options for their optic.

Barrel rotation should always be suggested if the gun is shooting extreme in any direction, especially if they are out of sight adjustment.

In other cases, remove the battery and ammunition. Then remove the silencer. Rotate the barrel 90 degrees and retest zero. Repeat until you've found zero or have ran 360 degrees. Other things to check are the aluminum bushing, it can also be rotated, though in recent models, you'll have to break the red loctite holding it in place. If this doesn't help, then a replacement inner and/or outer barrel is going to be the solution.

How long does it take to fully charge my 400e Lipo Battery?

It usually takes approximately 2 hours, provided you have a USB port that can output 1.5 amps. If you have an older USB port that puts out less current, then it will take longer.

Barrel Kit

Upgrade the internal barrel of your 400e Gen 1 or 2 Metal rifle with this complete barrel kit, available in your choice of Standard or Precision barrel type. This kit is specifically designed for compatibility with the 400e Gen 1 or 2 Metal, which has a 405mm barrel length.

Each kit includes all the necessary components to fully replace the barrel and install it correctly within your 400e Gen 1 or 2 Metal. Whether you're upgrading from Standard to Precision or simply switching to match your ammo and shooting style, this kit gives your rifle a new level of performance and customization.

  • If you purchased a 400e Gen 1 Metal, which were sold up until September 2024, you should know that your rifle came with an older version of the Precision barrel. The older design is less consistent than the current Precision barrel kits offered. The Standard or the Precision barrel kit will provide a noticeable upgrade over the stock Gen 1 barrel.
  • If you purchased your 400e Gen 2 Metal, which launched in October 2024, your rifle originally came with a Precision barrel if purchased between October 2024 and June 2025. Starting in July 2025, all 400e Gen 2 Metal rifles now come with a Standard barrel. Understanding when you bought your rifle will help determine which barrel you currently have, and which kit is best for you.

The Standard Barrel Kit offers reliable performance and allows for greater flexibility with BB types. It's less sensitive to slight imperfections in BB shape or finish, making it a great option for casual target shooting and higher-volume use with a broader range of steel BBs.

The Precision Barrel Kit is built to tighter tolerances and delivers improved accuracy and consistency. If you're looking to push the limits of the 400e’s capabilities in terms of precision, this is your kit. However, because of its tighter internal specs, we strongly recommend using only Barra .177 Caliber / 4.5mm Zinc-Plated Steel BBs. These BBs are precisely machined and polished to perform reliably in the Precision barrel and prevent feeding issues.
